The Hunter Building
A unique Grade B2 listed building which has been extensively refurbished to provide for modern duplex apartment and town centre living.
Ownership of the building can be traced back to the 17th century, when it was owned by the Dobbin family. Then, for nearly 200 years, it was owned by the Kirk Family and their descendants until 1949. The apartments have been lovingly created by the Hunter Family, who have owned the building for over 40 years.
Apartment 1
Unique ceiling cornices and a section of genuine Victorian wallpaper have been preserved, whilst, sliding sash windows have been fitted to bring back the original character and elegance of the facade to high street.
All finishes have been renewed in a complimentary colour palette. The living spaces are finished with oak flooring as a nod to the original oak framed structure concealed beneath.
Apartment 2
The historic oak staircase, which has witnessed over 3 centuries of footsteps and considered to be unique in urban Ireland, has been preserved.
Along with the stair restoration, sliding sash windows have been fitted to bring back the original character. The interior includes the warmth of exposed oak beams, original stonework and naturally breathing lime plaster, all complemented with a carefully chosen colour palette and original's oak framed structures.
Our particular input was to supply carpet, which had to be practical as these are rental properties, yet give a traditional heritage vibe. We also added Victorian stair clips to the stair runner.
The original staircase would have been torch candle lit, which, as you can imagine, would have been amazing. To reflect that, we used extra long thin bulbs in an iron cage lamp to give a heraldic theme.
Both apartments open onto a large, decked roof terrace to the rear where you can enjoy the convenience of apartment living & centuries of character with the benefits of unrivalled private outdoor, sun trapping space in the middle of the town centre.
